报告人简介:

Kok-Kwang Phoon (方国光), PhD, PEng, FSEng, FIES, FASCE is Cheng Tsang Man Chair Professor and Provost at the Singapore University of Technology and Design. He is widely recognized for his work on developing statistical and other data-driven methods to support decision making in geotechnical engineering. His work has influenced recent codes such as ISO2394:2015 “General principles on reliability for structures” and garnered more than 10,000 cites (h-index 47) in Google Scholar. He is the recipient of numerous awards notably the ASCE Norman Medal, the John Booker Medal, and the Humboldt Research Award.

Kok-Kwang Phoon is the founding editor of Georisk and serves on the boards of major journals conferences, and societies in his field. He authored one bookModel Uncertainties in Foundation Designand edited 3 books:Reliability of Geotechnical Structures in ISO2394,Risk and Reliability in Geotechnical Engineering, andReliability-Based Design in Geotechnical Engineering. He was elected Fellow of ASCE in 2008, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) in 2009, and Fellow of Academy of Engineering Singapore in 2012. He is a widely sought after lecturer having delivered talks in 26 countries 83 cities around the world, including:

l1st S.L. Lee Lecture (2013) – “Is Site Investigation an Investment or Expense? – a Reliability Perspective”

l11th J.E. Jennings Memorial Lecture (2013) – “Statistical Characterization of Geotechnical Parameters”

l10th Sun Jun Lecture (2015) – “Reliability of Geotechnical Structures”

l4th Wilson Tang Lecture (2015) – “Is There Anything Better than LRFD for Simplified Geotechnical RBD”

l10th Lumb Lecture (2018) – “The Story of Statistics in Geotechnical Engineering”

报告摘要:

Data infrastructure is now considered to be as important as physical infrastructure. This advantage is not well appreciated by most engineers, although it is pivotal to digital transformation. One of the key findings of the ISSMGE 2017 SOA/SOP Survey is that geotechnical databases that include information on inherent spatial variability, soil and rock properties, and risk databases be made available to the profession. Thus, compiling geotechnical databases represents one of the key missions of ISSMGE TC304. An initiative to promote public sharing of databases, called 304dB, was initiated by Prof Kok-Kwang Phoon and Jianye Ching in 2017, and has contributed to the development of data-driven methods by situating these methods in the context of real data over the past 7 years. It is timely to take stock and discuss how this effort can be raised to cover more types of databases, more countries, and more projects. In short, what do we need to do in research and practice to go from 304dB to Geoworld-dB? The purpose of this lecture is to share an overview of database compilation, to discuss challenges and opportunitiesto broaden 304dB to Geoworld-dB, and the immediate value of data to practice.
