Dr. Xiaobin Chen is a Professor in Geotechnical Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering, Central South University. He holds a B.S. (Central South University 2001) and M.S. degrees (Central South University 2004), all in Geology Engineering. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Railroad Engineering from Central South University. He has been on the faculty of the department of geotechnical engineering at Central South University since 2008. In September 2017, Dr. Chen was promoted as a full professor for his research accomplishments in the department of geotechnical engineering. His research interests include Transportation Geotechnics Engineering, Coarse-grained Geotechnical Materials, and Tunnel Geological Prediction/ Prospecting. Dr. Chen is also a committee member of TRB AFP70 Mineral Aggregates.

Dr. Chen has taught undergraduate courses in Soil Mechanics, Geology Engineering,Foundation Engineering and Soil Stabilization, introduction to transportation geotechnics engineering, tunnel geological prediction/ prospecting and slope stabilization structure design.

Dr. Chen has served as an investigator on over 20 research projects with grants received from National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Railway Corporation, Ministry of Transport of the Peoples Republic of China, Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China, Department of Transportation of Hunan Province, Department of Transportation of Guangdong Province, et al. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal papers . He once served as a reviewer of several SCI/EI journals (including TRB conference, Transportation Geotechnics International Conference, and Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering)
